How to get to Weebly
Starting a Weebly is really easy!
- First, login to your EVSC Google Apps account. (Visitors from other corporations - Go to your Google Apps Portal and login)
- Next, click Weebly from More on the Google menu at the top.

- You can also go to http://www.weebly.com.
CLICK HERE to see the key features for choosing a Weebly over the competition.
1. While at Weebly.com...
(Choose one of the bulleted options to explore)
- Visit the ICATS Weebly Sample Website at http://evscicats.weebly.com. There are videos on the site to walk you through how each page was created. Feel free to interact with the website - post to the blog and forum, submit a form, download a file, play a video, and check out the pictures.
- Create a Weebly of your own.
2. Back on this Blog, share your thoughts and opinions on the classroom application of this Web 2.0 tool.
3. If you created a Weebly site, please share the URL with us.
Weebly is a great tool for teachers who want to make a web presence quickly and easily without having to go through a lot of coding and stress. Weebly is quick and easy with lots of customizable options for the classroom teacher. Most are drag and drop, so you can focus on your content, not the technical side of website creation.
ReplyDeleteWeebly makes having a website easy for the teacher, and it makes their job easier by creating a place for their students to find things, like assignments, resources and blogs.
One of the bonuses I see with Weebly is that is can be, at times, more accessible than Angel. Sometimes when the network is busy, Angel is slow and unresponsive, so having a secondary portal for your materials is beneficial.
Another bonus is that is can be more user-friendly than Angel, at least for being a place to access materials for the class. And a parent might find Weebly easier to navigate than Angel.
My only problem with Weebly is the web address. Unless you pay for it, you get a Weebly address that includes their home address with an extension for your name. This can add a layer of complexity when students are trying to remember the address or when you are trying to give it out to people. This is a minor point, I concede, and one that can not be avoided in a platform such as this.
This sounds like what I've been looking for a quick easy way to set up a website that parents and students can easily access for information. My question is which is easier to use Weebly or Google Sites?
ReplyDeleteI had the same question as Chris. I started a google sites page last summer for a project idea I had. I just "started" a Weebly (created the first page with very minimal info) and it seemed about like using Google sites. I'd like to hear from someone that has worked with both to see which is easier.
ReplyDeleteI've heard about Weebly before but I have never actually worked with it. After playing around on it I could see how this would be a great tool for my students and parents to get information. We have clusters at our school and our cluster could make a website for all information about homework, assignments, tests, school events, and upcoming field trips. I will definitely be sharing this with my cluster to see if we can set one up.
ReplyDeleteChris & Reitz historian - I started to create a Google site for my class page and abandoned it when I started exploring Weebly. I think that Weebly is much easier to use. It took me less than 30 minutes to get it set up with all of the information I wanted to share with students and parents. I found it so easy to use that I had each of my middle school students create one as their digital portfolio. They were able to set up their sites in one class period.
ReplyDeleteMy site is tmssings.weebly.com. Not much to it yet, I am adding things as I have time.
I've worked with both Weebly and Google Sites in the past...neither of which are still active, so I can't share links...sorry.
ReplyDelete1) As far as ease of use, I think they're equals. Both have built-in features that are easy to access and format. I think Weebly does a better job with overall customization than a Google site does, though. Also, Google sites don't give much storage space on your private Google account, but if you have a Google Apps site, I believe you get 100 GB of storage.
2) Weebly is more accessible for learners as they don't have to have a Google account. It is also easier to just hop on and use.
3) For shortening URL's, Weebly is definitely simpler than a Google site URL. You can simplify both by purchasing a domain name for $10/yr from Google or other web providers. Very easy to do if you want help with that.
The two links below are learner projects done with weebly.

http://arnoldfoodchemistry.weebly.com/index.html
This looks like a great way to get information to parents. It would be an easy way to give them links for alphabet and number practice.
ReplyDeleteI've used both Google and I just started the Weebly page and so far Weebly has been much more user friendly. It's a great way to have information for students and parents to access. I can't wait to get truly started!
ReplyDeleteI was pleased to see an "Education" option for teachers. Since I'm an elementary teacher, it is often difficult to find websites that allow users to sign up without an email address. In this case, Weebly allows the teacher to sign up with their email address and then create classes and users which in turn, allows students to create their own websites. I really like this feature as many of my students do not have email addresses and I do not feel comfortable requiring them to sign up for one at their age. This is an activity I will definitely try to incorporate into my classroom later this year.
ReplyDeleteI created a weebly site: esparzamath.weebly.com
ReplyDeleteI think this would be an excellent way to keep an online newsletter for my class, as well as general information and class rules. It was fun selecting pictures to add :)
I became familiar with Weebly last year at the ICE Convention and played around with it then.
ReplyDeleteAs a Title Instructionalist working with many small groups, I thought it might be helpful to make a webpage and post the various forms and lesson plans we have begun using and creating for small group reading. The format we are using this year is relatively new for all of us. Including a blog about revelations and questions while teaching small groups could provide an opportunity to network with my fellow teachers about helpful strategies for helping my students. This could be used by my fellow instructionalists and other teachers in the building.
I created a Weebly for my new book club. It is cathyvoelker.weebly.com
ReplyDeleteThis is awesome!
I have been using Weebly for quite some time now. I started using it last spring and had a site all set up and ready to go for my students on the first day of school this year. My students use my website daily for their bellwork, to view the daily schedule, to help them keep track of homework, and to keep up with our Japanese club. I showed the site to my students and asked that they bookmark it. I've gave my class site a simple name that they use very often in class. I also created a new page within the last week for our S.W.A.T.(Student Wellness Awarness Team). I will be updating the SWAT website as I receive emails from our health guru. I also have shared it with our SWAT community on Facebook.
ReplyDeleteWeebly is a great and simple tool for anyone to make a web presence. It's much simpler than writing the code yourself. It's even easier than the old Angelfire or Geocities website creators. I'm very pleased with the options I have available and the time it takes me daily to use it.
The only downfall I see is that for more advanced options such as adding a video, you'll have to pay. However, as most of us know, the company has to make a profit in one way or another.
I'm with John that Weebly is more user friendly than Angel. Angel is great, but not much to look at and students can get easily confused. Also, sometimes Angel can be overwhelming for us teachers on the amount of options it gives.
My sites are:
stephenssensei.weebly.com
harrisonswat.weebly.com
This makes creating a website simple and and easy. I think I need more time to try out each idea that has been presented so far, but at least I get to sample lots of ideas in a short time.
ReplyDeleteI have used both Google Sites and Weebly in the past, and in my experience Weebly is much faster. My websites for Weebly look more professional with much less work. While my Weebly is no longer active, my friend's is. She is a middle school math teacher in Bloomington and her weebly is awesome! Here is the link: http://misshornsclass.weebly.com/index.html
ReplyDeleteNow, I just need to make my own!
Like Kara, I had started a google site for a project and I can see already that I will abandon it for this. It is much more user friendly. If I were in the classroom still, I would use this as an assignment option for my students and also for my extra-curriculars.
ReplyDeleteI haven't created a site yet, but when I do, I will certainly share it.
I have begun a weebly site for my class which is music/tech for 5th grade and computer club. I started it so that they could easily start a lesson without typing in web addresses that was really hanging them up and taking all my time. I am also using it with google docs forms to have them submit answers back to me and I really like this.

ReplyDeleteI really enjoy using Weebly for creating websites! It offers so many functions that most sites do not and your website appears without ads all over it! I like what Matt said about using the education version. I created accounts for my students and they made websites. I had control over their usernames, passwords, and could even check their progress as they created. This year, I created a Weebly site for the EVSC Honors Choral Festival and I started my own site at www.mrthornton.weebly.com.
ReplyDeleteWeebly was the website that I used to create my teacher webpage. It was very easy to use!
ReplyDeletemy site is http://michelmath.weebly.com/
I started to use Google Sites, but I never much cared for the look of my sites. Weebly is much better and has a very professional look to it.
ReplyDeleteHow neat! I agree with Matt, it is very helpful to have a site that does not require a email address. The kids will totally eat this up! I can't wait to use this with them.
ReplyDeleteI have not tried this as of yet. Maybe when I get a second to breath, HA HA, I will try it. Are there advantages to using this over our current EVSC webpage? I find my parents go to it. This would give them one more thing to remember. One more thing for me to try and keep up. I have gotten some good ideas so I will try over a break to try and play with.
ReplyDeleteI think this would be a great tool for having students design a webpage; maybe tied to a specific project, or to show off their work in my class.
ReplyDeletehttp://misshisch.weebly.com/
ReplyDeleteNot my best design, but given more time, I think it will evolve. I have a resource page for parents and students and a homework page. It would be super easy to update the daily assignments online from here. It was fun to do and fairly easy to navigate. I have made other websites in the past (http://cahisch.pbworks.com/w/page/670423/FrontPage it's been a long time since it was updated) but I think I prefer the Weebly interface.
I made a basic weebly in no time. I just created a couple of blank pages with a navigation menu at the homescreen. This is much easier than using software!

This tool is so user friendly! I have taken some coding classes and this makes creating a functional website so much easier and faster. This would be a great way to create a class newsletter in my ELA classes or even create a homework site for students. They could use the site to collect any missing assigments, lecture notes, or anything that they may have missed or forgotten. It would be a great addition to a flipped classroom as well.
ReplyDeleteI feel like I've been living under a rock. Each idea shared so far has been wonderful. THANKS so much! I started a page called The Falcons Nest at
ReplyDeletehttp://fairlawn.weebly.com/
Many moons ago, I attended a workshop on creating websites. This was the iCATS first started. I attended twice and failed both:) Can't remember what we were using then, but it was a nightmare. ANYONE could do this.
Technology is part of our rotation, and I'd like to see our students learn how to do this. it would be wonderful for our Art Club, Student Council, NEHS, etc. to create a page and link to our school website.
❤❤❤❤ this challenge!
@Cathy Voelker - Your kids are SO lucky to have you. What an awesome idea. LOVE your page!
ReplyDeleteI have used Google sites like many here, and wasn't terribly impressed with the outcome. I am out of town today and my internet connection is too slow to actually create a weebly today, but I may have found a good way to combine the blogging idea with the webcontent idea by using this option. I am creating diversity modules but haven't found the right platform for what I want. This could be it-I love the idea of the picture slideshow as well. I wonder if bit.ly could be an option for shortening the weebly link? Also, I love the idea of having students use it to build a portfolio-great idea Kara! When I get my content pulled together (before this 30 day challenge is over I hope), I will share it with this group.
ReplyDeleteps-Cathy V: I may start attending your class bookclub! What a great idea!
ReplyDeleteSorry to clog up the blogposts with so many comments, but I went a little obsessive and decided to put a few things together and create a weebly site. Here is the address: more to come!
ReplyDeletehttp://docdiversity.weebly.com/
I too need more time to explore each of these great tools. I will be visiting the websites created by each of you for ideas!! Weebly seems fairly straight forward and I like the idea of using it as a portfolio for students.
ReplyDeleteGreat tool... I would like to use this for my Anatomy students to create an online portfolio of their work. We usually do a genetic disease project in Biology and student usually do a PowerPoint or pamphlet, because it is easy and what they are comfortable with. I would like to challenge my students this year and have them create a weebly about their genetic disease.
ReplyDeleteBy the way... is there any way we can get a week or two off so we can replan the rest of the year using these tools. ;)
I just want to say that I am LOVING all of your ideas and websites. As these sites develop, I think it would be a great idea to create a directory of EVSC blogs and sites that people can peruse and learn from. It might be fun to have a student contest for educational website design as well.
ReplyDeleteThank you to everyone for sharing.
Weebly would be great! I do like that it is easy to make a website that students can see and use! I do believe I will set one up soon!
ReplyDeleteAwesome! I'm going to set one up right now. I've been wanting to create a website for my classes but I didn't know my options. This seems like a very easy program to navigate. As you all know, time is precious! I do not have a lot of extra time to try to figure out website design programs that are more complicated.
ReplyDeleteThis is easy to use and it looks so good. You can really put together something that looks really good and not have to spend days on it! Where was this program years ago when I was working on my Master’s classes? This would have saved me a lot of time on projects for classes. I am still really impressed on how it looks when you are finished. It looks really professional.
ReplyDeleteI have started a Weebly to create a website for EQUITY Schools. I think it will be great way to share the successes of that project with EVSC and the world.
ReplyDeleteI have used Weebly in the past for a project I was working on and it was very easy, others were very impressed because they thought it was difficult to design a website. :)
ReplyDeleteI have also used it in class for student projects. They design a website to provide information on a certain topic. I allow them to choose which free website creator they want to use and most choose Weebly because of how simple it is to use.
I also think it may be a good way to get the information out about services that are available in the school and the community.
One of my students made a weebly site for a high school geometry vocab project. It will become my "glossary" for future students.
ReplyDeleteI had no idea that you could make your own website this easily!!!!!! This will be used for sure! I have a lot to learn about it yet but it has been extremely user friendly.
ReplyDeleteSome other teachers in my school have used Weebly and loved it. It has motivated them to find other good free website building sites too.
ReplyDeleteI too first heard about Weebly last year at the ICE conference. I was one of those people who immediately had to start exploring the possibilities! I love all that the site has to offer. As Matt mentioned I like that students have the opportunity to create without their own email address. I look forward to sharing this with my colleagues in the near future so that our students can begin to explore this site.
ReplyDeleteWeebly is much easier than the previous web building process I have experienced. I don't know how I would use this in my classroom, but I would love for the students to learn the process in technology class.
ReplyDeleteI am excited to show weebly to my web designers; although I am concerned about the storage space. Has anyone had problems with this? Has anyone used custom images?
ReplyDeleteWow! What an incredibly easy website creator! Last year I suggested webs.com to my students, but some of them found it a bit difficult to get the site to do what they wanted. Many of them discovered Weebly on their own and had much more success. The web is a world our students are comfortable in, and creating a website gives students an entirely new audience for their work. I think this is a great way for students to publish their work in a real-world forum.
ReplyDeleteWeebly seems like a great way to communicate with students and parents. After looking at the EVSC weebly, I can see that it would be a way to show students where they can find links to helpful sites and to communicate. I think it would be great to connect it to a classroom blog as well.
ReplyDeleteThis was easy - and Free. A website of my own might make life easier for my students. Angel has limitations, so a website might make more sense.
ReplyDeleteI published a website under construction at
ReplyDeletehttp://harmonshelpfulheuristic.weebly.com
I apologize if I am repeating myself--I just tried to submit and was kicked off. When I viewed the video at the beginning of this, I thought it looked fun, but not all that useful to my students--outside of being a fun, interesting activity--but after reading many of the other entries, I am much more excited. I would love to see some of the other participants' weebly pages so that I can see what they really look like "in action".
ReplyDeleteThis is cool. I definitely would like my own site for communication. Angel can only do so much, and this can be more personalized. I like how easy it is too - I need easy! :)
ReplyDeleteThis was lots of fun! I created a webpage about the greenhouse that is being built in our courtyard. I included a short paragraph of the progress that has been made, and made a plug for donations/volunteers. AWESOME!
ReplyDeletehttp://sciencewithmrswillis.weebly.com/
Wow, this could be a great way to communicate with parents and students. All homework could be posted to the website for absent students to access. In Angel, I have to post resources and assignments in each class period. The website would allow me to post only once for my Algebra students. I really enjoyed looking at Molly's friends webpage. There were alot of different links to games, music, etc., as well as classroom information.
ReplyDeleteI think Weebly is one of the easiest ways to set up your own website. I have helped in creating a Weebly for coaching, but I also created one for my family. In the classroom, I think I would create one to use for students to access information.
ReplyDeleteI've been trying to find a user-friendly way that my students can create websites - and this is it! I love the idea of a virtual lab report portfolio, but was having a hardtime finding the best tool for it.
ReplyDeletemichelle, how did yours turn out
Deletemy class just started theirs yesterday....
This seems like a great tool to setup a classroom website. I could easily post an agenda, resources, and etc. for the students. Also, this may give students another option to show what they know. During my student teaching, some students chose to do a website on MRSA rTher than do a brochure.
ReplyDeleteI think this would be a great way to create a class website that would be easy to make and easy to use for students. I created a quick one with very little on it for my 4th and 5th grade girls basketball team to communicate with those parents and update schedules, rosters, locations of games, and photos. The girls and parents can also blog once I get that running on it and talk about the games, set up rides, possibly add photos, or many other things. I could also use it in the class as a site to add links to for acuity practice, ISTEP pracitce sites, myOn Reader program links, education city.com links, and any other sites I want them to visit when we use netbooks, laptops, iPads, or even to get on at home. With the blog, students and parents both can communicate with me about how they are doing!
ReplyDeleteI almost forgot, here is my VERY ROUGH basketball site...
